My name is David Golebiewski, and I am a recent Duquesne University graduate seeking a full-time job as a sports journalist, features writer, general news reporter or editor. I currently write for The Pittsburgh Sports Report (a monthly publication with daily online content), Pop City (a weekly E-magazine focusing on technology, arts and hiring) and several baseball websites such as Fangraphs.com and Baseball Analytics.org.
I have a varied journalism background, having spent this past year as the Pirates beat reporter for The Pittsburgh Sports Report while also covering college basketball games and special events in the city, such as this past summer's Veteran's Wheelchair Games. Through my work with Fangraphs and Inside Edge (a baseball scouting service providing detailed reports to Major League Baseball organizations), I got the opportunity to write guest articles for ESPN.com and Yahoo.com, and I was once a columnist for Rotoworld.com, the web's most popular fantasy baseball website. I also have experience investigating topics ranging from conservation efforts to art to economics through my work with Pop City.
While at Duquesne, I edited and produced Off The Bluff, a Society of Professional Journalists publication for Duquesne University highlighting the people, places and history of the Bloomfield neighborhood. As editor, I wrote several articles for the magazine, fact-checked and revised the work of others, took pictures and made a layout for the magazine using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. As a senior, I also edited the school's award-winning newspaper, The Duquesne Duke, and wrote a few articles on the Pirates.
I think that my experience -- in the press box, walking the streets on the beat, fine-tuning and fact checking stories and using new media tools -- makes me a good fit for any publication.
